It tests a persons aerobic and cardiovascular endurance, speed, and respiratory capacity. It's the best thing to do for physical testing. For a girl, to be considered in fit, most states require below 9 minutes and around 8:30 to 9 minutes for a guy. These are just approximate, chances are if you are fit, you will get much below this. A good mile is anything under 8:00 for an average person. A fit person should get no more than 7:30 and most track athletes get around the 5s or 6s.
For a rerun you should do better than your last time. Usually you'll do it twice, on different days.
