I'm doing an invention for a science project and I need a motion sensor that could be rigged to move with you.How would you get a motion sensor to move with you?You would need a stepper motor and a controller.

You would need to write a program to lock on to the motion.

In order to have an object start spinning from rest OR have a spinning object CHANGE speed, a NET torque must act on the object.



A NET torque is never = 0 by definition. The fact that a NET torque exists means that the SUM of all torques that act on an object %26gt; 0. Therefore it is an UN-balanced torque.



Another physics name for "torque" is "moment". Both are identical in meaning and have as SI units: "meter-Newtons" or m-N.

A net torque of zero is necessary for a body to remain rotationally at rest. That is true. However, just because a net torque was zero, does not mean the body will be brought to rest. If a body spins free of friction with zero net torque, it will rotate forever around the same axis, at the same speed, in the same direction.

    A solar light that charges by the sun during the day and lights at night. The new ones are all self contained, just take it out of the box and hang it. You might have to adjust the sensitivity if it has this feature. Buy it in any electrical supply stores.

    Remember, animals running across it will light it at night, but will go out by itself in a few minutes.

    and try to keep the board under you when you ollie dont be afraid to touch the front truck bolts before you jump so you can judge how far you need to bend down

    I'm looking to buy a 3ccd camera and was wondering if you can get a smooth slow motion if used on imovie?Is getting a smooth slow motion due to the camcorder or the editing system?Iridflare and J I H are both right on.



    NTSC standard frame rate is 30 fps (technically 29.97, but wikipedia does a better job explaining that item). If you increase that capture frame rate - like 120 fps or higher and playback at 30fps, then the playback will be in slow motion.



    For example, supporting J I H, some Sony camcorders have a feature, "SmoothSlowRecord". They burst a higher frame (120-240fps) rate for 3 seconds and playback time is 12 seconds.



    In support of Iridflare, when you consider that most consumer camcorders that use flash memory, DVD or hard disc drive for storage compress the video a LOT. And when you understand that video compression = discarded video data = reduced video quality, your goal, especially if you are planning slow motion video is to use the least amount of compression possible because you need the MOST amount of video data. In the consumer camcorder space, that typically means DV and HDV video formats, and that means miniDV tape.



    The next piece has to do with the camcorder's shutter speed. Generally, when everything is in "auto" mode, the camcorder's shutter will be at 1/60 second or 1/125 second. With fast action, a lot can happen in that time. Increasing the camcorder's shutter speed to 1/500 secodn or 1/1000 second will help freeze the action...



    There is no one thing that you can do that provides smooth and clear slow motion - but a combination of things. And yes, it is more important that the camera capture the high frame rate than iMovie's slow motion effect application - but both can work together to give you a good result.



    And the imaging chip - whether single CCD or CMOS or 3CCD or 3CMOS has little to do with the slow motion capabilities of the camcorder. The chip merely interprets the light allowed in by the lens. But it is always preffered to have the largest imaging chip(s) and lenses possible to get as much light as possible. When the shutter speed is increased, you will need as much light as possible in to get a clear shot during the high frame rate capture.



    If you stay to the 30 fps that most camcorders are limited to, increasing the shutter speed alone to about 1/500 second and using iMovie's slow effect can work - do that too much and you will have a "strobe" effect that is visually uncomfortable when viewed for long periods of time (though I have noticed that 1/1000 second to be much worse with that issue). And if you slow down much further than about 14 fps, the playback will look jerkey.



    If you REALLY want to do high quality slow motion video, then you won't be using a consumer or prosumer grade camcorder or a bundled video editor - but a standalone camera that connects directly to the computer and specialized high speed capture/recording software designed to do thousands of frames per second. The video files captured to a hard drive are HUGE.Is getting a smooth slow motion due to the camcorder or the editing system?It's both! Highly compressed video recorded to DVD, HD or SD doesn't take kindly to being altered, so that's never a good choice. Slow motion is achieved by inserting extra frames - some editors are better than others at doing this (but I don't know how good iMovie is!).     What are some resources for obtaining a male model / fitness model type physique?

    I am in good shape and actually am considering becoming a personal trainer myself, however I still have trouble obtaining what I would call the "ideal" body, either lifting weights too often and having some muscles become too big in proportion to my body or not lifting enough and feeling a lack of muscle, I am hoping that people on here can point me to some resources to obtain a male model / fitness model type physique.. everything seems to be geared towards bodybuilding which I have no interest in as I don't want to put on weight and become "huge".What are some resources for obtaining a male model / fitness model type physique?What you want to do as far as lifting weights is "toning" - lifting a set amount of weight for a certain amount of "reps"; then resting; then repeating the same amount of "reps"; resting again; then repeating the "reps" and then moving on to another body part.

    Run for 10 seconds, Sprint 10 seconds alternately.

    You can also add walking into this.



    Do both sprinting and long distance training.

    Brain is such a human machine, which if uses, will give more. If we don't use it, it will degrade. We all do physical fitness. How do we improve brain fitness?How do we improve brain fitness?A commercial brain fitness program has been shown to improve memory in older adults, at least in the period soon after training. The findings are the first to show that practicing simple visual tasks can improve the accuracy of short-term, or “working” visual memory. The research, led by scientists at UCSF, is also one of the first to measure both mental performance and changes in neural activity caused by a cognitive training program.



    In the study, healthy older participants trained on a computer game designed to boost visual perception. After ten hours of training, they not only improved their perceptual abilities significantly, but also increased the accuracy of their visual working memory by about ten percent – bringing them up to the level of younger adults. Few brain training programs have been subjected to such rigorous research evaluation to reveal such a transfer of benefits, the researchers say.



    Working memory is the ability to hold information in mind for brief periods. It is essential to accomplish immediate tasks, such as engaging in conversation with several people.



    If improvements in a simple perception skill can transfer to a higher level function such as memory, as this research found, then other interventions might further improve brain function in aging people, the scientists say. The researchers recorded participants’ brain activity before and after the visual perception training, and found a direct link between improved performance and changes in brain activity. After the training, activity had decreased in a key brain area involved in processing visual input. The people who improved the most in the visual training showed the biggest drop in neural activity – as if the brain didn’t have to work as hard to take in information. The research is being published in the journal PLoS One on July 14, 2010.



    “This confirms our understanding that the brains of older adults, like those of young people, are ‘plastic’ – the brain can change in response to focused training,” said Adam Gazzaley, MD, PhD, director of the Neuroscience Imaging Center at UCSF and senior author of the research paper. Gazzaley is associate professor of neurology, physiology and psychiatry at UCSF.



    “The study shows that perceptual improvements with simple discrimination training can transfer to improved working memory in older adults, and it also shows that this increase in memory accuracy is linked to changes at the neural level.”



    There are many brain fitness programs being marketed, but there has been little rigorous testing and evaluations of their effectiveness, Gazzaley said. “We zeroed in on one specific regimen, and we can see that at least with this approach, some brain fitness program claims may be warranted.”



    Gazzaley’s team worked with researchers at Posit Science Corp., a producer and promoter of brain fitness programs. Posit Science was co-founded by Michael Merzenich, PhD, a leader in brain plasticity research and an emeritus professor at UCSF. Posit Science funded the research.



    Memory improvement was measured about one week after the visual perception training ended. The scientists did not assess how long the memory improvement might last beyond that period without continued training.



    A further test showed that if participants had to multi-task during the memory testing, they did not receive the memory boost from the previous perception training. Gazzaley hopes that more studies can lead to ways to help people improve their ability to mentally process simultaneous tasks – a skill that declines in many older adults.



    The study involved two sets of 15 healthy adults from age 60 to 89. One group participated in the training. The second group served as the control, taking the memory tests but not the visual perception training. No participants had dementia, but the group showed a range of mental fitness typical of an aging population. The average age was 72. Most were college educated, middle class people.



    People in both groups were given a baseline working memory test consisting of watching dots move across the computer screen, followed by a short delay and then re-testing to see if they remembered exactly in which direction the dots had moved. The memory test was given to both groups again after the experimental group had participated in ten hours of visual perception training. This training challenged players to discriminate between different shapes of sine waves, or S-shaped patterns, moving across the screen.



    The training program was designed so that as a participant’s skill level improved, the task became progressively harder. The drills lasted 40 minutes, and were given three to five times a week for three to five weeks. All trained participants improved their ability to distinguish between the two different moving shapes.

    if you do this..every day for one month ..you should lose around 10 pounds (.714 stone) per month until you get to your natural healthy weight.. look up on the internet for an idea of what your weight for your height should be ..and when you get to this weight,,your body will look very nice and you will feel very good.

    In Mass, they are required to complete the physical challenges of the police academy which includes an agility test, run a mile in a certain amount of time, some weight lifting minimums, push ups, ect.. Its very similar to the physical tests given in military boot camp. On my dad's department they are required to maintain and pass a fitness test every year, including a mile long run, bench press, push ups, and they also are required to take a continuing education test on their knowledge of the laws, and a firearms exam.



    In the academy they are required to pass the following areas:

    Constitutional Law

    Criminal Law

    Crisis Intervention/Conflict Resolution

    Physical Training

    Patrol Procedures

    Defensive Driving

    Self Defense

    Firearm Training

    First Responders



    Satisfactory score can differ from state to state.

    As far as the taser, you are not mandated to carry it. If we want one, we sign it out at the beginning of our shift.
    Alabama Peace Officers Standard of Training (APOST) requires a run of 1 1/2 miles in less than 15.5 minutes. 25 push-ups and 25 sit-ups in less than 90 seconds. and an obstacle course consisting of pushing a vehicle 15 feet, running 50 feet, getting over a 6' fence, run another 50 feet, get through a 2' square window, run another 50 feet, walk a balance beam, and drag a 165 lb. mannequin (I forget how far) in less than 90 seconds. This is the minimum requirements to be admitted to a police academy. Some academies require you to improve these at certain intervals during the academy.



    My department will issue Tasers to any certified officer who wants one.     My agency has a yearly test. You have to run I think the test is a quarter of a mile long. There are different obstacles along the way. A 150 pound rescue dummy to be dragged; climbing a cattle gate; running up steps; dry firing a duty weapon.



    Also pushups/setups based on age. In my agency if you were issued a taser and failed to carry it then you would loose it to a long line of willing people wanting a taser. They are very sought after. Also why would you go through the pain of "voluntary" taser exposure not to carry your X-26.
    We don't have any formal fitness tests other than a thorugh medical exam and screening. The standard for a lot of WI Departments is what Trooper mentioned.

    We are not required to carry tasers at my department, but we have access to them. I always carry one while on duty because I prefer to be as armed as possible. They are excellent less than lethal tools for cops, and I imagine you won't find a lot of officers that wouldn't like to carry one if they could.

    I want to purchase a bike I can ride to the store, around the neighborhood, to the park's trails, the dirt trail near our house, etc. I want to start riding to get in shape. There are several types some more like road (racing type) bikes others closer to mountain bikes. Still others close to a cruiser type. (like old fashioned single speed bikes) Some have an upright riding position, and still others require you to lean forward and down more.



    If you want to ride dirt roads and trails get one that more like a mountain bike. It will have a little sturdier frame, fatter tires -far better on dirt and gravel. Most are muti-speed and I would recommend this. The tires should have some tread to give you traction in soft dirt and gravel but not too much as to make pavement riding rough.



    It would do you well to visit a few bike shops to see all these different variations to get a feel of what is available. Ask questions see what the shops have to say. Explain what you want from the bike, this is a great way to zero in on what you really need.

    I ride a mountain bike with slick tires to run errands and ride on rough roads and gravel. I can also switch out the tires at any time and have a very worthy off road bike. Plus it fits me and I think it looks cool. (Im a geek) It has a rigid fork because for the money I could put better components on it without buying an expensive front shock. Rigid forks Are also better for riding on pavement where I spend most of my time with this bike. Unless you're in really wet conditions or plan to ride steep off road trails I wouldn't get disc brakes (they're more complicated, heavier, and more expensive) Regular V type brakes are really good stoppers. The bikes frame and wheels have the most impact on the feel and handling of the bike so if you're going to cut back don't do it there. Most importantly make sure the bike fits you properly. A cheap bike that fits correctly is more comfortable and fun to ride than an expensive one that doesn't fit. So go to a good shop and get fitted before you decide on what brand or model you want . They should take several measurement to ensure a good fit. Have fun.     You have a couple good answers. I think something like a Trek 7200 would work for you. At least if you looked at one of those you would see about what you need. The biggest reason to stay away from the department store bikes is that they do not have people there to help get the bike that fits you and to adjust it correctly. Also they usually fall apart from not being assembled correctly.
    Either a hybrid or a hard tail mountain bike with slick tires. Go to your local bike shop. Tell them where you want to ride and let them recommend AND SIZE a bike for you. Then, most important, test ride it. If you want fitness from riding a bike, you have to ride it a lot. You won't do that if the bike isn't comfortable because it doesn't fit you correctly.

    I also seriously recommend considering a hybrid or cross, and I'd try to go as light weight as possible, while also getting a bike with a little wider tires.



    The biggest problem (in my opinion) with either mountain or comfort bikes is they're just too heavy and clumsy for zipping around town. A lot harder to pedal so they're too tiring to ride any decent distance, or get any real speed out of. If you don't plan on riding more than 5 miles max., well, at least you'll get quite the workout during that 5 miles.



    On a good road bike, once you get build up a good cadence, 20 miles no longer seems like much.



    It sounds like you want something inbetween, and that's where a good cross or hybrid comes in. As other people here have pointed out, please go to a good bike store, let them know what you're looking for, so they can assist in deciding on your best options, and help you get fitted.



    On the right bike, riding is sheer joy. On the wrong bike, pure pain. Everyone's different, and the only way you will be able to tell which one is right for you is to get on a number of them and try them out.



    It's hard to actually recommend a bike for you without knowing more about your body type, shape, and many other factors. You see, I'm a petite little woman and using slightly wider Terry Treilis tires, can ride my road bike even on most dirt trails--but I still ride my old commuter bike for winter, shopping and running errands.



    Treks are good bikes, but so are many the various other brands stocked by reputable bike shops. Just don't go to Walmart and buy a Huffy!

    In gym class we did a resting heart rate test and mine wasnt very low even though Im sweet at running. My friends resting rate was 10 BPM lower than mine but i can beat him in any race by alot. So obviously HR isnt a good indicator of fitness.     I think it can, but it's the same with any kind of home fitness equipment, you need to have a lot of motivation and use it regularly.



    If you use it at least 3/4 times a week, I think you would notice a difference after about 6 weeks or so. It's just difficult to keep at it. I used mine for about 2-3 weeks then got a bit bored of it.

    I somewhat exercise and eat healthy but I would like to be a fit, more active person. What things could I incorporate to change my lifestyle to a fit lifestyle? I'm 17 and planning to join cross country this upcoming school year.How to get myself into the fitness lifestyle?Baby steps bud that is all. Start by (please dont hate me for this) getting into classes resembling aerobics. Trust me dude that will teach you to be more coordinated and methodical about gymming and working out plus you get to lose a few pounds to get into the whole fitness system. Go to gym just for classes 2 times a week for starters for about 2 months. Spend an 1 hour there. After that within 2 months of Fit Kombat Fit jump or Fit Localized or Core classes you can spend a little more time at gym. Spend 2 hours at gym 3 times a week. Pick 2 days just for cardio exercises and 1 day just for free weights. At free weights start small and pick your weeks for 1 half of your body to work out. 1 Week (1 day of the week) for legs and frontal torso and 1 week for back torso but in all weeks of free weights you have to work out arms. Now working out arms and legs is just not that simple. I advise you to get a trainer for the first month you get into that. After 2 months of working out like that keep spending your 3 days at gym but now spend 2 hours a day of cardio and 3 hours a day of free weights and now you can incorporate more exercises in free weights and therefore have more time to work out. Another time saver in free weights is to alternate exercises. While youre doing any exercise of arms and you finished your set of reps, imeadetely start another set of reps in a whole different exercise working out different muscles like squats for your legs. You will not be feeling too tired since youre working out another muscle. Also remember to start small in accordance to your THRESHOLD and POSTURE. If your weights are too heavy for your correct posture then go lighter because it can damage your body. You will not be seen as a little girl or worse. Much to the contrary you will be respected by those who take gymming seriously.

    About food. Eat a lot of fibre and minerals. Sweet potatoes are excellent protein foods as well as Quinoa being very rich in fibre. Stay off whey and soy supplements as whey even tough its ideal its really dodgy coz you dont know what goes in there. Soy in excess can cause erectile disfunctions. Keep your diet as natural as possible specially in the morning. Drink about 3 glasses of room temperature water 30 minutes before breakfast every morning and start substituting certain breakfast ingredients for healthier ones. Like fruit. Oat meal. Kellogs special K. All bran flakes is bad for you as its like digesting cardboard. Too harsh for your stomach. Replace your sugar in your cofee for honey or fructose. Too much fructose can still be detrimental to you. Remember tough. The secret to health is balance. Not excess. Finally stay off fried food and red meat.     Eek, you must live in a bad neighborhood. The main thing people do is join gyms. A lot of places also have public pools and running tracks. You can also work out pretty much all your muscles with just pushups, pullups, situps, squats, and lunges, none of which require equipment (if you do pullups at the local playground; otherwise you can buy a pullup bar for like $10), and you can jog in place, jump in place, do jumping jacks, or do aerobics videos for cardio.     Download the P90X program off a bitTorrent website Mininova has it. It's a great program and it doesn't need that much. Just a chin up bar and some resistance bands.

    lol in one week! it all depends on how long you have been training for fitness does not go away overnight! or in a week if u took 2-3 weeks off u will lose some fitness but it will be easier to get it back that it was when u first got it when im about compete and i want to peak for a big comp we do a 10 day taper which we do almost nothing very very light stuff and 1 week could be very god for the body you could come back fresher and better!
    You lose about two weeks progress for every week off. Don't expect to be back at same level at the end of the week off as you were at the beginning.     Seven days is not that much if you were in good condition before taking off. It will take you a couple of weeks to get back to where you were before the time off. If you are taking off for an injury there are other things you can do to maintain cardio, such as, cycling, swimming, eliptical, or deep water running. If it was a rest for physical or mental reasons, maybe you should do something easy like walking to keep yourself moving without training.
    Too much....don't do it. It would take about 10-15 days at least to get back into the shape you were in before.

    i read in runner's world magazine that you start to lose it the third day in a row that you don't run. so try not to let more that 2 days go in between runs. i took a couple weeks off earlier this month and i felt like i was back to the beginning!
    Its been proven that when u miss a practice, it takes double what u missed to get back (thats not including days of rest which are very essential if u wanna be a top runner).



    example: If u miss 1 day, it takes 2 days to get back.

    if u miss 2 days, u need 4 days to get back,etc,etc



    therefore if u miss one week, then it will take u approximately 2 weeks to get back.Good Luck.
