I want to make the cross country team for a big run coming up in 5 weeks. Its 5 miles long...
Im an ok runner already so I think I may have a chance at making the team but I think I'll need to improve a bit to be in with a chance. I haven't had much practice and I don't really know how to train. Are there any running/breathing exercises can do? And what preparations should I make before the run? Anything else I need to know? How can I increase my stamina and general fitness?you need to train. 4-5 days a week, alternating interval work with distance/tempo runs. every 3rd day, do a sprint workout or a sprint ladder. also do core, which is basic ab workouts. the week before the run, do 1 sprint workout, 2 distance runs, and the day/night before the race, a longer, SLOW recovery run. make sure you stay hydrated, eat plenty of pasta/carbohydrates. on race day, eat at least 2 hours before your race, and make sure to stay hydrated. do a good warm-upHow can I increase my stamina and general fitness?Try this:
Run for 10 seconds, Sprint 10 seconds alternately.
You can also add walking into this.
Do both sprinting and long distance training.
Got a stitch? Count to 30 - thats what Paula Radcliff apparently does.
Have the right mindset and you should do fine. Eat carbs, don't run the day before.
