I have been training with weights, and other methods for many years.

    pick a schedule and stick to it not every meal has to be a meal per say just some nutrition for your body is all you need try some mixed veggies(raw) or some mixed fruits. also drink plenty of water tried this and just this when i started and you begin to feel the results. also make sure to downsize your meals ex: eat one serving of food no seconds and only put on your plate what you intend on eating since ppl tend to try to finish what's on their plates. workout 2-4 days to start off then try everyday and do cardio at least 30 min and also weight train.

    You should definitely take a shower before you use the pool. It is common courtesy for anyone using a public pool. I have seen people who just hop right in after intense workout, all sweaty. Probably comfortable for them but frankly I was very DISGUSTED!!!



    Once I saw the jacuzzi water turned gray (because of people mentioned above) and didn't bother to get in. It is NASTY!!!

    Sure. You need to get the hand weights which can substitute the weights in the gym. You might need to get some inexpensive equipments such as an elliptical machine.
    I believe that a good home fitness workout can be, in almost all cases, more effective than going to a gym.



    There's just something about working out at home that makes it much more comfortable for me.     Google proper stretches. I cannot emphasize this enough. When I first started out at the gym I did the bare minimum amount of stretching, tbh I don't think I even did any of them correctly, because of this I would feel awfully tense for a few days after each session and would end up working out through pain at my next session.

An estimate of your max.HR is to subtract you age from 220. For example, if you are thirty, then your max.HR would be 190. This means that moderate activity is anywhere between 95 and 154 beats per minute. This is probably a good category to be in, but check with the doc first.



    It is also important that you focus on your improvements rather than getting frustrated with your lack of progression. Keep positive and make sure you give yourself plenty of rest in between exercise. Your body tends to adapt to exercise every 3-6 weeks. Therefore I would recommend that after 5 weeks training, you take a week to relax and do very light activity. After this week, you should be ready to move on to a slightly more challenging routine.



    I would also recommend that you get plenty of sleep and eat a healthy diet. Don't get physically or emotionally stressed and don't do anything, (such as smoking or excessive drinking) that will place unnecessary strains on your body. Believe it or not, being happy and relaxed helps release the right sorts of hormones in your body to fight illness and speed recovery, so watch plenty of comedies too!

    Many times, but not always, the fitness test, oral hiring board and medical screening are all scheduled for the same day.



    The test consists of timed push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups and a cardio test. The cardio test consists of taking your pulse rate prior to the test, then repeatedly stepping up onto and off of a 12-18" step at a timed rate. They then take your ending pulse at the conclusion of the test.



    The physical test is easy and is often passed by people that ultimately fail the physical training at the academy. You don't have to be an excellent athelete, but you do need to be in fair shape to attend.

The great news about this is that certification only requires you to spend the day at one of their workshops. The best one to start off with is the Group Fitness certification. This one might actually be an entire weekend and there are two parts to getting certified: a test and a practical (meaning you have to actually demonstrate things to prove you know what you are talking about). You also will need to have a current CPR certification. From there, you can get your pilates certificate. I did it through AFAA and it was a one day deal with no exam or practical. If you did want to go the college route (totally unnecessary since most gyms do not require it) you would be looking for a degree in Exercise Science or Physical Education.

    Can someone give me a marathon training schedule based on my current fitness level?

    I would like to run the Vegas Marathon on Dec 6th. I currently run 5 miles several days a week as well as some shorter runs the other days of the week. I weight train, and am in better shape than most people in general. Is it even possible for me to train in time for this run and can someone give me a training schedule and tips.Can someone give me a marathon training schedule based on my current fitness level?There are 4 types of run to include in your schedule.

    1) Long run. This should be at an easy pace, where you can comfortably carry out a conversation. At the moment, build up to about 10 miles, once every 2 weeks or so, with about 8 miles in the intervening weeks. In august, start to increase this gradually up to 18 or so. Try to be up 18 to 20 miles every other week by the end of october, with about 16 miles on the intervening weeks. You might want to do one of about 22 miles by early november, just to boost your confidence, but it's not really necessary - if you can do 20 miles after a full week training, you'll be able to do 26 after 2 weeks of tapering down.



    2) Race pace run. This is to get you used to running at the pace you want to do the race at, do about 4 to 5 miles now, and by the start of october, start to increase this gradually, up to about 12 to 13 miles by the beginning of november.



    3) Interval session. One of these a week, to build up your stamina / recovery, speed or strength.



    4) Recovery runs. These are easy pace runs, on the days between the other sessions, to build up your weekly mileage, and to help to recover from the hard runs on the other days. Some of these could be replaced with swims or cycling.



    Between now and august, train pretty much as you are now, between august and the start of october, build up the mileage, and between the start of october and the middle of november, maintain the mileage, and increase the intensity. For the last 2 weeks before the race, taper down your training.

    You might want to reduce the weight training during the 2 to 3 months before the marathon.

    How to increased muscle mass and CV fitness?

    Right, I am 14 years old and I am quite fit and I am toned all over. I wanted to increase the size of my muscles - mainly biceps, triceps, abs and pecks (I think that is what they are called :p)

    I eat very healthly (I always have, not just lately because of the goverment etc) and I have a high metabolism - I have been told it runs in the family.

    I also would like to increase my CV fitness so what type of running should I do, for how long, how fast etc.

    I would also like excises working the areas mentioned above with:

    How to do exercise?

    How many reps?

    How long should I rest for?

    Any warm up and down tips?



    I do not have any access to a gym only weights and the usual stuff that is lying round the house.

    I am also wondering if any knows of any protein snacks and stuff I can eat and are the supplements safe for my age group? I always have atleast 2 glasses of milk a day - a kinda habit since I was young.

    Thanks for all the help =DHow to increased muscle mass and CV fitness?I have used weights for many years, and used to do a lot of sprinting. Let me throw a few facts, opinions, and experience at you.



    Training for muscle bulk tends to pull in the oppostite direction to that required for CV training. IE. longer distance running to improve endurance will tend burn up energy required for building muscle bulk. A good compromise is to do a lot of short sprints to help CV, which should not detract too much from muscle building weight training. It depends at this stage where you want the main emphasis to be.



    Given your age and the fact that you are toned, suggests that you should have a fair amount of endurance anyway. Sprint training will be more useful for the vast majority of sports, rather than pure endurance work. You often see people running miles, particularly on tread mills, why? unless distance running is your thing.



    The fact that you are still growing, means that you need to be a little careful with the weight training, pressure on joints, over exertion, which can put too much strain on a growing body. Rest is just as important as training, to give the body chance to recover.



    It is a pity that you are not a gym member, that way you would have access to the full range of weight training facilities. High metabolism, tends to mean, in general, that you might find it more difficult than most to build muscle bulk, because, you will tend to burn off lots of energy naturally. Should help with the sprinting though, because you are more likely to have quick response muscles.



    As long as you eat healthily, I wouldn't get into any obsessive eating regimes, particularly at your age. Protein products containing say, 'creatin' put a strain on the kidneys, as would excessive protein consumption. Remember, being fit, does not necessarily equal, healthy.



    In general terms, building muscle bulk requires the trainee to go for heavier weights and lower repetitions. However, mindful of your age and what I have stated above, you need to build up slowly and do not over-strain. You don't say which weights are available to you, how much/type?



    Pectoral muscles - the usual exercises for this muscle group is - bench press (lying flat on a bench/inclined on a bench/declined on a bench). each position gives a different emphasis. You can also do the same thing with dumb bells.

    You can also do press ups. If you can handle it, get someone to put a small weight on your back.



    Triceps - any pushing movement, including bench press and press ups, also works the tricep, There are specialist exercises though, some of the better ones requiring gym equipment. You can do dips at home if you can say utilise a chair, someone could put extra pressure on your shoulders as extra resistance.



    Biceps - the usual exercise for these are barbell curl and dumbell curl.



    ABS. Sit ups of course. Lying down with legs raised and held off the floor as long as you can, puts tension on the right spot. It often isn't realised that tension on the body from doing the other exercises also puts tension on the stomach.



    I feel that you need to feel your way into weight training, taking it slow and easy at first to see how your body responds. I think really you need a face to face with someone who understands weight training, to explain each exercise type, and crucially, how to do them safely. Injuries, particilarly the back, can last a lifetime. I wouldn't, at this stage become over obsessed with, how many reps, how many sets, how long should I rest for. For weight training, I have always found that the best way to warm up, is to do a few light repetitions of the exercise type you are about to do, just to loosen up the body. Many people go through elaborate stretching routines before they start their training, but I have never found that necessary.



    I personally wouldn't train everyday. Your body needs a recovery period. I have always found mon-wed-fri gives a good spacing. There are lots of theories out there, but only by working with your own body, seing how it responds to differing training regimes, will you learn what is right for you. Big muscles don't always = strong muscles.     You can complain to the Better Business Bureau as well as the Department of Health who will most likely send out an inspector to the gym to observe this violation.     Optimal number of weight lifting sets for fitness?

    I read recently that the vast majority of benefits in weight lifting, given a goal of fitness vs. building size, is in the first set. In other words, doing two to three sets of a given exercise offers little additional benefit than doing only one.



    What is the general consensus regarding this finding?Optimal number of weight lifting sets for fitness?I don't know where this information came from, but any strength training program that I have ever seen documented somewhere lists reps and sets. Never have I seen the number of sets be 1! In addition, whenever I do 2-3 sets, my last set will be to maxout...doing as many as possible and working past the burn/fatigue.     A roast chicken or eye round of beef is good.
    How about chicken and beef kabobs? You can use skinless, boneless chicken and marinate it in low fat Italian dressing. Get a sirloin roast and cut it in chunks for marinating and soak it for a while in low fat/low carb french dressing. It's really good. The french dressing makes the beef so delicious.



    Also have kebobs of different veggies you can grill. Dont' forget to pre-cook the vegs. that are hard so they get nice and done on the grill.



    Add a loaf of good bread, maybe a dessert?

    This is a menu that allows for those watching calories and also lets those with more hearty apetite feel satisfied.

    I would start with an antipasto tray that has a lot of lean proteins in it as well as veggies and a few hard cheeses. Leave out the crackers.



    I would serve a filet of salmon. My favorite way it to completely encase it in a homemade foil packet on top of a baking sheet. Slice 2 onions and 2 fresh lemons in to thin slices and arrange on top of the salmon filet. Sprinkle with fresh ground pepper and a light sprinkling of dark brown sugar (adds minimal calories, but a ton of flavor). You could also add fresh chopped garlic if you like. Then, bake it in the oven for about 45 mins. The onions and lemons wilt and basically steam the salmon. Then, you serve it with the beautifully carmelized onions and lemons on top. Easy and gorgeous!

    I like to serve this with fresh asparagus with a light lemony sauce I make on the stove and baby red potatoes or couscous or mashed sweet potatoes, all add color, texture and visual interest.

    Follow with a coffee/tea service and a scoop of low-fat frozen yogurt with a homemade strawberry, rhubarb, blueberry or raspberry fruit sauce made on the stove.
    Depending on where you live, you could do kabobs with a large variety of choices. You could have meats, veggies, and fruits. You could also cook a wok dinner.

    If you have showers in your gym then the people that deliver your shower supplies will have the best deal for you. Also check with the company that stocks your office restrooms.



    The cheapest way is to have some towels (that someone will have to wash) and use a spray cleaner.

    You are probably a pear shape. Combine cardio with strength training and forget about this vibrating belt. Just do push ups, situps, squats, running, swimming, sport etc. Just be active and eat healty stuff. This is good excercise for growing bodies and will help you when you start working out.

    When your 16 you can start working out. BUT! Make sure you dont lift anything to heavy, do lite weights many times

    (when i say lite i mean not so heavy that you have to strain extremely hard just to do 1, lite means hard to lift, but you can still do quite a few without having to stop)

    Doing this will tone your body and give you a good figure.

    Only start doing really heavy weights (if you want to) when you have stopped growing, for guys its around 19 years of age.

    Remember, if you exercies one part of your body, remember to do the other, in other words dont just focus on one area of your body.

    Before you start working out (when your 16/17) talk to your sport teacer or someone else about what to do and what not to.

    AND DONT TAKE STEROIDS!!!!!!!

    Someone once told me that if you try to get fit, you'll never be it becuase you view it as a chore.



    And I think that person was right in my case because i say i will but never do or if i do i give up after 3 days of working out and continue the same process over the next week.



    So how do i make it a lifestyle (something i just do and don't think about) ? Real silly but i need help... thanks!How do you make fitness a lifestyle and not a chore?First thing to remember in a lifestyle change is that you are doing things for the long term and not simply for a set period, such as a diet or undefined fitness regime. As such, it is important to keep perspective and to engage in activities you like doing! Otherwise, you will have no hope of continuing in the long term if you hate doing an activity! So, remember, find an activity you like doing! Most people find they enjoy team games (or going with someone to the gym), as you can share goals + have socialise at the same time.



    Secondly, set yourself a realistic goal - it will help you break the cycle of working out then stopping etc. When changing a lifestyle, you have to remember it takes 4-7 weeks for you to get into a new rhythm. After this point, you won't even think about your new regime as it is just what you do! To help in this first 4-7 weeks, challenge yourself to a goal - such as running 10km in 50 mins or lifting 30% more than when you started. It will motivate you to get through this period.



    Thirdly, be aware of what happens to you in the first 4-7 weeks. It is important to note that if you do not exercise regularly and then do 3-4 session a week, your muscles will hurt. This does last forever,and your body will adapt, but it is a real turn off for most people! For your info, it takes 2-3 weeks for your body to get used to lactic acid build up and for your muscles to recover quickly after training!



    After this 4-7 week period, you should have a new fitness lifestyle cycle. However, remember to keep setting new goals and challenges. This will make sure you never get bored whilst exercising!



    Personally, I will tell you a little about my own exercise regime that gives you inspiration:



    My passion is soccer and I love every second that I play and I am very competitive. It doesn't even feel like I am exercising and it is certainly not a chore. However, it make sure I enjoy football the most, I have scheduled my exercise regime around the following goal:



    Play intensive football for 90 minutes without feeling exhausted



    As such, I train 4-5 hours , and I have one 90 min game a week. During the week when I don't have soccer, I run 2x1hour to improve my stamina and do 2x 30 mins of weight sessions to improve my strength. To tell you the truth, I hate running and going to do weights, but because I am motivated by my overall goal of playing for 90 mins, I complete these activities. This goal keeps me motivated!How do you make fitness a lifestyle and not a chore?Do things you enjoy,



    maybe a morning jog in the park

    walks on the beach

    bicycling

    So I again started to play atleast 3 days a week. 2-3 hours a days play.Since I enjoy playing cricket,I dont notice that my body is working hard.So If you have one,go out there,enjoy with your friends.



    Apart from that I ve also reduced my usage of bikes.I will walk If my destination is below 1 km.But I hate walking.So what I did? I bought a Apple Ipod.So when ever I walk,I just listen my fav music.That's it ! I dont notice that I am sweating hard.

    I agree with vinotys, work out when it feels absolutely right and you will get your brain psyched into believing that exercise is your favorite thing ever. These exact things might not work for you, but this is what works for me.



    X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Watching that just makes me want to lift a bus over my head. Find something (maybe youtube vids or a movie or something) that gets you super pumped. Wheen you work out all motivated like that it just feels like a release.



    I also listen to my most insane death metal in the morning and it gets me really pumped up and makes me want to get active and work out in the morning.

    I don't believe in homeopathy medical treatments, they've never been proven. I won't give advise I know is harmful. Some of these people have been giving advice to those with everything from cancer to sunburns. They have no idea what they're speaking about. What's good for one, may not be good for the other. I always suggest a doctor or tests, you have to have them no matter what the expenses, so many things today in our complicated world imitate others.

    It seems to be a waste of time doing so. I wonder if Yahoo is in cahoots with them for the advertising revenue.

    When reported they are not always removed and now they have (since the 10th april) private accounts so we cannot answer questions where their posts are totally inappropriate. It can leave some questioners with only spam for an answer and that is wrong.

    I suppose it's a waste of time getting steamed up about it but I hate it when youngsters fall for the lies, more so if they buy online and get scammed.

    Most people can't be bothered to report, it is a bit of a fiddle.

    If you are female make sure you have good upper body strength. The home office guidelines now mean that the level required is more relaxed in order to accommodate male/female short/tall, etc... while many officers are very fit an average level of fitness will be fine. A bit of running and reasonable upper body strength for the push/pull will be fine.Can anyone suggest a fitness training plan for someone who wants to become a police officer?
    I would concentrate on simple exercises like properly performed push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and running. A big part of fitness is diet. So make that something you focus on.

    You should definitely take a shower before you use the pool. It is common courtesy for anyone using a public pool. I have seen people who just hop right in after intense workout, all sweaty. Probably comfortable for them but frankly I was very DISGUSTED!!!



    Once I saw the jacuzzi water turned gray (because of people mentioned above) and didn't bother to get in. It is NASTY!!!
