How does one become a Fitness Professional and Pilates Instructor?

What are the steps, the classes, requirements... etc?

What colleges/universities in Los Angeles could I go to?How does one become a Fitness Professional and Pilates Instructor?I don't live in LA but if you are looking to teach at a gym, most require certification through a nationally recognized organization like ACE or AFAA. The great news about this is that certification only requires you to spend the day at one of their workshops. The best one to start off with is the Group Fitness certification. This one might actually be an entire weekend and there are two parts to getting certified: a test and a practical (meaning you have to actually demonstrate things to prove you know what you are talking about). You also will need to have a current CPR certification. From there, you can get your pilates certificate. I did it through AFAA and it was a one day deal with no exam or practical. If you did want to go the college route (totally unnecessary since most gyms do not require it) you would be looking for a degree in Exercise Science or Physical Education.
