Which Resident Evil should I buy?

I'm not a gamer of anything so I'm sorry if I am way off on anything....

I have a PS2 and I really like the resident evil plot line (as far as I can tell)

I want the newest version #5 but I know I need a PS3 for that so...

my question is which one should I buy?

I kind of want the 4th one but I also want the one with Alice in it..... (is there one with Alice in it or is that just the movie?)

I'm not a gamer or anything. so I need a game where I can work my way through.... with out prior knowledge of the cheats or anything. =)

Any help would be great! Thank You!Which Resident Evil should I buy?
There isn't a game with alice in, sorry :(

But resident evil 4 is brilliant.
If you've played the 2nd, then get the 4th.

Actually, even if you haven't played the 2nd one, get the 4th. the story will just make more sense if you did play itWhich Resident Evil should I buy?
resident evil 4 is awesome
the 5th oneWhich Resident Evil should I buy?
Yeah, Resident Evil 4 would definitely be your best choice. However, you may really have difficulty getting through the game since you aren't really a gamer. I'm a gamer myself, and I still thought Resident Evil was pretty hard.
Get a gamecube off ebay (or use a wii) and get the original remade one. If you like resi you'll love it. Original and best with great graphics even today
The 4th is the best. And it takes almost as double as long as the 5th to complete.. Buy it for your PS2, you wont regret it..
Alice was an invetion for the cinema adaptation of the game, so sorry, but no Alice. I'd reccomend RE4, it's a fun game and the gameplay is great. If you want to follow the story, best thing to do is start from the ground up with the numbered games in the series, and if you're obsessed then you should get the others in the series, e.g., Code Veronica, but it's by no means neccesary.

RE4 has different gameplay to the other games and it's an improvement in my oppinion, so it might be better to start out with one of the earlier games with classic gameplay so you can really feel the improvements. The whole series is good in its own way, with some more laughable titles, some more challenging and some genuinely great games so try renting some before you buy to make up your own mind, it's the best way to come to an informed decision.
Resident Evil 4 is the best of the lot as far as i know, have heard hit and miss things about number 5.
If you have a ps2, the best thing to do is get all from 1-4. These are the ones that follow any kind of story. Code Veronica X features Claire (Resi2) and Chris Redfield (Resi 1 + 5) Any others like Outbreak you may want to get, but they're more to do with the franchise that is Resident Evil and don't tend to follow the story. My personal favourite is no 4, but to avoid confusion i'd start from the beginning. They don't really come cheap either.
